RAW OR COOKED (commercial) FOOD?
Erm...News Flash ......our dog is a carnivore
it is very closely genetically similar to the wolf, so bearing this in mind what is the logical choice of what to feed ??...... do we give cooked or raw?? It is not a trick question....
Doesn't take a University professor to work out that a wolf eats Raw food !! and as our dogs are identical genetically and have been given teeth to match......
(they were not put there for muching buiscuits or sucking slop
)

......We should be feeding our dogs a natural, raw diet, because it is biologically appropriate and contains NATURALLY occuring ingredients, which when fed in this manner are perfectly balanced to cater for your dog's nutritional requirements.
I also consider it a 'Canine right' to at least be fed on a diet you were actually designed to eat !!
Take a look at this wolf image.....does he look to you like he would be happy with a nice corn on the cob (cooked of course !!) or does he look like a cereal sort of chap to you?

He looks to me like the typical carnivore, you've only got to take a look in his mouth to realise what this guy what born to eat... Raw meat and bones !!!
Let's take a closer look at canine teeth courtesy of Shanti, My GSD
These 3 belong to the family, they all eat a raw diet and all have the most fantastic teeth, even Winnie, the dear 14 year old pensioner at the back !!

If I could provide you with a similar picture of a wolf's open mouth one thing would become immediately apparent, the lay out of teeth are identical, every tooth present in a wolf's mouth is in exactly the same arrangement in a dog's mouth, teeth that were made and designed to rip and tear apart food to crunch and bite, crush and grind.....They were not made to munch politely on 'dog-food'
Digestion....
If I could provide you with a side by side comparison of a wolf and dog's digestive tract, it would again become immediately apparent that these too are identical
.........Now....why do you suppose that is?? could it be because they were designed to eat raw food?
For your dog's sake make the connection.....
Why do we find it so hard to make the connection with our own dogs??
Why do we use a diet that is so biologically inappropriate it is actually having a dramatic effect on our dog's health any yet still we feed it !! WHY??
Why can we not see our little susie or freddy or tootsie for what she or he really is-
A CARVIVORE>>>>A WOLF IN MINIATURE

Because we have practically taken our dog's identity away from them, we are living in a generation that puts clothes on dogs, why would we then think it unusual to expect them to eat cooked food??
WHY would we find it more unusual that their digestive systems, evolved from centuries of recieving a raw diet would then all of a sudden have a problem coping with something entirely alien - COOKED FOOD, TINNED FOOD, KIBBLE etc.
The usual main ingredient of a commercially prepared food is grain !! dogs were never intended to eat grain, left in the natural order of things you would never see a wolf sizing up a corn field with a view to it being on the menu !! And there are no ovens in the wild............But because of the way the food manufacturers prepare these artificial foods and the assurances we read which are plastered all over the packet we are conned into thinking we are doing the best for our dog...
- How brainwashed are we ? !!!
Because the Pet Food Companies have us believing that their product is going to be so wonderfully beneficial to our dog's health and well being..... we NEVER question the fact that the main ingredient in most of these products is GRAIN a CARBOHYDRATE which has been COOKED !! Dogs require very little carbohydrate in their diets, their natural diet contains little.....starting to get the picture yet???
When you feed a dog something it is not designed to eat, the dog's nutritional requirements are put into jeopardy, this type of food will not sustain good health, it will and does cause BAD health.
So what is it that's so bad about commercial food?
Where do I begin !! ??
People have written books on this subject, the one I own myself 'Food pets die for' by Ann Martin is a real eye opener about what goes into our petfoods.
Feeding your dog on commercial food can cause a whole host of problems which on a raw diet would not be seen.
We have talked about all commercial foods being cooked, this process also destroys alot of the nutritional content of that food.
We have also talked about the content of the food, it is cereal based and the cereals are high in carbohydrates, dog's diets do not require alot of carbs and they have problems coping with the digestion of them, hence we end up with huge stools of smelly, dubious texture !!
Because they are not receiving nature's toothbrush in the form of raw bones, their teeth start to suffer, their breath starts to smell, the toxins which built up in their systems from the food they are recieving cause the dog to emit a whiffy 'doggy odour'
As with all convenience foods....... because at the end of the day that is exactly what commercial food is, it's TV dinners for dogs, moon food, junk food call it what you will, it is packed with additives, preservatives and artificial nutrients and dubious vitamins. There is salt in most of them too, not to mention colour and dyes.
These cause numerous problems in our pets, from hyper activity to diabeties, from skeletal problems to obesity, from periodontal disease to skin disorders, the list just goes on and on.
Would you eat a diet like the one described above? would you let your kids eat it? The answer will almost certainly be NO, and so why is it that a nation of dog lovers feed their pets on junk food?
The reason is because it's probably not your fault, your vet is endorsing what the pet food companies are brainwashing you with, the question is now you know, what will you do about it??
To those of us who are onto this conspiracy, we use the diet of the wolf as a blueprint for our replica of 'the natural diet' we look at the main content of the wolf's diet.
The bulk of the diet is made up of :-
Raw meat (this includes muscle meat, organ meat and offal)
Raw meaty bones
The diet will also contain :-
Vegetable matter, either partly digested in stomach of prey or by the wolf's own selective grazing on grasses, herbs and fruits, berries etc.
I will deal on another page with why some raw feeders do the veg thing and some don't...Who is right and who is wrong ?
The usual main ingredient of a commercially prepared food is grain !! dogs were never intended to eat grain, left in the natural order of things you would never see a wolf sizing up a corn field with a view to it being on the menu !! But because of the way the food manufacturers prepare these artificial foods and the assurances we read which are plastered all over the packet we are conned into thinking that grain is of course the best food for our dogs - How brainwashed are we ? !!!
Double jeopardy ........
Because the main ingredient in commercially prepared foods is grain which is then cooked......... when we feed this to our dogs, they are getting a double whammy of inappropriate food.
Grain = high carbohydrate
Dogs are not designed to cope with a large ammount of carbohydrate, it is not a natural food for them at all, when you look at what their prey would be in a natural situation, it does not contain alot of carbohydrates.
By feeding large ammounts of carbohydrates to our dogs we cause a whole host of problems which would not been seen on an all natural diet. Problems from bad breath to pancreatic insufficiency, from obesity to heart problems.
Approx 60 % of vet cases are DIET RELATED
That basically means that you are paying your vet to correct a problem which you caused in the first place by incorrect feeding.
So what benefits can I expect to see if I switch to raw?
The very first thing which you will notice is that your dog is producing far less waste, this is because he is now utilising practically everything you feed him and as the diet is a natural one very little is discarded, which is great news for the person who does the pooper scooping !!!!
You will notice that not only is there alot less to pick up, it doesn't smell and is quite hard.
Next you will notice your dog has much sweeter breath, that is because a bone is nature's toothbrush and will do a much more efficient job at keeping your dogs teeth and gums clean, than any of the 'tooth cleaning treats or products' which are on the market today.
Your dog's teeth will never need to be de-scaled again, saving you money, he will no longer be subject to rotting teeth, bad breath or gum disease.
Just take a look at the picture of our dog's teeth above, notice there is not one single bit of tartar present, they have never had their teeth scaled in their life !! they have never need to, and their breath smells fresh, even Winnie's, by the time most dogs on a commercial diet reach 14 years old, if they are still alive, they usually have rotting teeth, unless the owners have given that dog access to raw bones alongside his diet.
A really great benefit of eating raw meaty bones is the workout which you dog will recieve when he eats his dinner !! His jaws, neck and shoulder muscles will get a work out which is not possible with commercial food.

Beacause of the time it takes them to eat their raw bones, the stomach has plenty of time to get the acids flowing which aids good digestion, again this is something which does not happen with commercial food.
You will save money in two areas
:- Firstly on food !!! feeding a dog a natural diet is alot cheaper than feeding expensive commercial food.
:- Secondly on Vets bills !!! they will be practically none existent, good news for both your pet and your pocket!!
Puppies which are raised on a raw natural diet, grow at the correct rate, damaging growth spurts are reduced therefore putting less stress on developing joints and bones, pups raised in this way develope great bone but do not carry the weight associated with high protein commercial puppy foods, this in turn will also reduce your vets bills as the dogs are less prone to go on to develope skeletal diseases.

Your dogs will look far healthier........ they will be far healthier...........their coat will gleam, their eyes will shine and a previously sluggish dog will have more energy. Again I will use Winnie as an example, she is in the middle here and just look at her !!!!!! This dog is 14 years old !!!
It works both ways too, because your dog is no longer being filled full of additives etc, any hyper active behaviour will decrease, it is the same principal as giving kids loads of E numbers in drinks, seets, crisps etc, it's common sense really.
Last but by no means least, you will be feeding your dog what he was born and designed to eat and believe me that has a feel good factor like nothing else, by feeding this diet you mirror what he would eat in the wild, a diet that is designed to keep animals healthy - no vets in the wild !!
